Riven Guide

Overview
Riven mods are special weapon-specific mods that were originally meant to boost underused or niche weapons. Rivens start veiled and give a challenge that's required to unveil it and make it usable. Each unveiled Riven is tied to a specific weapon family and cannot be equipped on other weapons. Each mod also rolls up to 3 random positive stats and one negative stat.
Where to Get Rivens
At the moment, Rivens can be obtained from the following sources:
- Palladino in Iron Wake (2 Rivens for 10 Riven Slivers each)
- Archon Hunts (potential reward)
- Daily Sorties (potential reward)
- Teshin Steel Path shop (potential weekly offering)
- Acrithis's shop (random weekly offering)
- Steel Path Circuit (random offering in weekly reward track)
- Arbitration Honors vendor (Archgun Riven for 35 Vitus Essence)
- Cephalon Simaris (Companion Weapon Rivens for 100,000 standing)
Riven Disposition
The Short Answer
- Every weapon has a Riven disposition
- Disposition affects the stat values that a Riven can roll
- In the arsenal, this is displayed as 1 to 5 dots with 1 being a low disposition and 5 being high
- Low disposition generally means worse stat values, while higher means better ones.
The Full Picture
On the backend, disposition isn't a simple 1-5 scale. Each weapon is assigned a disposition value from 0.5 - 1.55 that acts as a stat multiplier, affecting the potential range that stats can roll within.
For example, let's say Rivens can normally roll a multishot value from 50% to 100% multishot. With different dispositions, Rivens can only roll within higher or lower stat ranges.
| Weapon | Disposition | Multishot roll range |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 1 | 50% — 100% |
| Weapon A | 0.5 | 25% — 50% |
| Weapon B | 1.5 | 75% — 150% |
This is important because weapons with the same “dots” can have different disposition values. One great example is the Boltor vs Boltor Prime. In game, both show a disposition of 4 dots, but the Boltor has a disposition of 1.3x while the Boltor Prime sits at 1.2x. If you equip the same Riven on both weapon you'll notice that your Riven has different numbers.
Note: All new weapons start with a disposition of 0.5 and are gradually increased until they reach a level DE is satisfied with. This system was set in place to avoid having to reduce the disposition of weapons that were too strong on release.
Rerolling Stats
When you unveil a Riven it's assigned to a random weapon family and given a random set of stats. Sometimes these are great, but most of the time they won't be good out of the gate. Cycling (commonly called rerolling) will randomize the stats and their values on a Riven in exchange for Kuva.
To reroll your Riven, go to your mod bench, select the riven, and click the Cycle option. Spending kuva will then present you with two options: keep the original or take the new roll. Since stats are entirely random, it may take quite a few rolls before you find a roll you're happy with.
Recommended Riven Stats
What makes a Riven 'good' varies by weapon, and with experience you'll naturally figure out what stats are desirable and what stats aren't. The tool below lets you search any weapon and pull up recommended stat combinations and notes.
Note: Due to how some late game mods are, lower disposition weapons will often need better Riven rolls to have them outperform standard mods.
How to Price Your Riven
Riven prices are highly subjective. Much like fine-art, people can generally agree on what's objectively good. However, what someone is willing to pay for said art can vary wildly from person to person.
There's no perfect method, but one strategy is to search for similar rivens on Warframe.Market. Keep in mind that the listings you see are ones that haven't sold yet, but if you see multiple listings at a similar price, that can be a good baseline.
