Valence Fusion

Overview

Valence Fusion is a mechanic that lets you combine duplicate Adversary weapons (Kuva, Tenet, Coda) or Railjack gear to improve their stats without having to replace and reinvest in them from scratch.

For Adversary weapons, Valence Fusions are primarily used to raise the progenitor bonus, which adds between 25% to 60% bonus base damage of the progenitor element. Fusing two copies will push this number higher and allow you to keep either weapon's progenitor element.

For Railjack gear, fusion improves stats and allows you to swap specialized traits depending on the item.

The chart below shows the number of fusions needed to reach the 60% maximum based on the highest progenitor bonus of one of your copies.

Minimum initial bonus Fusions needed to reach 60%
58.0% 0 (rounds up to 60% automatically)

39.7% 4

Fusing Gear

For weapons, go to the upgrade screen of the weapon you want to keep. In the bottom right corner, select Actions and then Valence Fusion. For Railjack parts, head to your clan's dry dock, select the part you want to keep, and click the "Valence Fusion" button in the popup at the bottom of the screen.

From there, pick the weapon or Railjack part you want to break down. It'll show you a preview of the stat improvement and ask you to confirm. After confirming it will also prompt you to pick which progenitor element or bonus effect you'd like to keep if applicable.

How It Works

When fusing two pieces of the same gear (e.g. two Kuva Zarrs or two Lavan MK3 engines):

  • The gear you started the fusion from is preserved
  • The other copy is broken down
  • The bonus stat then becomes 10% more than the higher value of the two
  • You'll get the option to pick which progenitor element or Railjack trait to keep.

Example

Weapon Bonus
Copy A Kuva Zarr (5 Forma) 30% Toxin
Copy B Kuva Zarr (0 Forma) 40% Heat

Fusing these two (starting with Kuva Zarr A) would give you back Kuva Zarr A with a 44% bonus of your chosen element (Heat or Toxin). Since 40% is the higher value, the result is 1.1 x 40% = 44%. If you started the fusion from Copy B, you would end up breaking down Copy A and losing the 5 Forma invested.

Why Fusion Order Matters

Since each fusion takes 10% of whichever copy has the higher value, the order in which you fuse copies is very important if you're trying to max out the progenitor bonus. Fusing a large number of low-bonus copies before using your highest bonus copy will often waste most of those fusions. The optimal way is to collect several copies and always start fusing with your highest bonus copy.

Example

Let's say you're farming 5 Kuva Tonkors to max out its progenitor bonus. You collect four 25% Heat Tonkors and on your 5th one, you get a 40% Cold Tonkor.

If you were to fuse them one by one as you collected them, you'd end up with a progenitor bonus of 44%. However, if you waited and started fusing from your initial 25% Kuva Tonkor that you invested in and your 44% Cold Kuva Tonkor, you'd end up with a final progenitor bonus of 60% (58.6 but anything over 58 rounds to 60).

This diagram shows both scenarios.

Fusion Order Matters

If you're trying to max out your progenitor bonuses we recommend:

  1. Get a copy of the weapon gear that you plan to invest in
  2. Collect additional copies until your highest progenitor bonus and number of extra copies match a row in the chart
  3. Fuse starting with the one you've been using and the copy with the highest bonus. Then work through the remaining copies in any order
